Lots of ups and downs, so I have been very quiet lately. I haven't had a lot of time for minis since we moved into our new apartment, but I do have all of the houses displayed and they look really nice. I recently got a DSLR camera (yay!) and plan to do a few photo shoots with them when my schedule allows it. I may invest in a macro lens someday soon...<br />
<br />
I have, however, started a new hobby: soapmaking! I started late last fall to make Christmas presents and I found that a) I really, really enjoy it and b) my soap recipes were turning out to be pretty awesome (if I say so myself - haha). My husband and I revived our old business, PeaceCrafted Products) from when we lived in NH and are now selling hot process handmade soaps. (Shameless plug: here is the <a href="http://peacecrafted.com/">website </a>and the <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/PeacecraftedProducts">Etsy store</a>. We'll be adding spa salts soon too, and I may even throw in a few miniatures on the Etsy store that are left from Linda's Minis.) It's rewarding to have started our old business back up again and I love crafting soap since it is very relaxing while taking a break from my day job. Plus it's like alchemy...turning lye and oils into something absolutely wonderful! :)<br />
<br />
Hope all of you are doing well! I still read blogs from time to time and lately have been feeling quite inspired by all of them. :)<br />
<br />
Cheers!<br />

Sorry, I have not fallen off the face of the earth, just the blogosphere! lol Anyway, just putting it out there that I have posted some dollhouse items on eBay in a lot. We just moved to a new apartment and I did some purging in the process.<br />
<br />
Hopefully there's something here you like!<br />
<a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/190930216746?ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649">Dollhouse miniature lot</a><br />
<br />Hope all is well, readers. I hope to pose some new and interesting things soon!!!Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09923870005222288815noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333007594028572156.post-36844740840272001392013-07-03T17:13:00.000-04:002013-07-03T17:13:06.264-04:00Shop update and other things!I've been pretty busy doing several things over the past few weeks and just realized it's been a while since I posted here! And, yikes, I have some reading to catch up on to see what's happening in all of the blogs I've been following!<br />
<br />
Hmmm, what has happened since the last time I posted?<br />
<br />
- Well, I have been working on a swap with <a href="http://fabiolamiominimondo.blogspot.com/">Faby</a> via Jazzi's Christmas in July Swap! We've received each other's gifts and I will be posting real soon! (I still have to take photos!)<br />
<br />
- I also participated in a second swap with <a href="http://miniaesthetics.blogspot.com/">Mini*Aesthetics</a> who was interested in my dollhouse quilt and I made one for her. Pics will be coming once that swap is complete!<br />
<br />
<b>By the way, if you see anything you like on my blog or in my Etsy shop and want to do a swap or trade, I am very open to it!!! :)</b><br />
<br />
- I have been taking up quilting (in 1:1 scale!!!). I made a quilt for our couch - slightly smaller than twin size - to use up excess fabric in my stash. I will post some photos of that, too! (I have a lot of pics to post!!!)<br />
<br />
And that's only craft stuff, and doesn't account for work (in which a nice personal accomplishment was made) or day-to-day stuff. This summer is a busy one.<br />
<br />
<b>Our Etsy shop will be going on vacation from July 9 - 19. I am happy to announce that I will be doing a sale from NOW until Monday, July 8 at 5PM EST. Use the coupon code July42013 to receive 25% off your order before then! (Here's the link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LindasMinis)</b><br />
<br />
Hope everyone is doing well, and for those of you who are experiencing any heat waves are staying cool!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

I really enjoyed making these (and yes, they do open and you can put stuff inside!). If they sell, I will make more. I also take custom orders on my site, if one wants a specific color or extra flourish (like the flower I added in the tote I posted yesterday); just click "Request Custom Order" on the left-hand side of my store's page. Pam is all dressed up! Not terrible for my first go at
dressing a doll (if I say so myself!). And those of you who commented on my
last post, thank you! As you mentioned, fabric glue is LOVELY when making dolls'
clothes in this scale. I did use the sewing machine on Pam's skirt, but fabric
glue took care of the more fiddly sleeves and bodice. I used Beacon Adhesives
Fabri-Tac. I love this stuff as it quickly dries so there is not much waiting
between steps of a project. </div>

Pam arrived today (from California!) thanks to a kind seller on eBay. I saw her (perhaps through Small Stuff? I can't remember...) and thought she kinda resembled the character Pam (played by Jenna Fischer) from one of my favorite shows, <i>The Office</i>. Maybe just a little. Anyway here she is!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
She arrived in New York without any clothes (oops?) so I am getting her outfitted and trying my best at designing clothes for her. This is my first time trying to make realistic doll clothing for an actual doll (don't tell her that) so this will be interesting. For now I have outfitted her in a slip and a tube top.<br />

<br />
So I have sorted through my fabrics and picked out a few favorites...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6RulNn7fPbtcUXwm5rQNSKY-Ux1VERMPt4UesBWAAY42052N_Kh8OmG_tY1Je0B6ZzWS09IOqKvS5QElknnE9eYmrQv3VQl5asCe0lyZstMWfEfWLQNqG7HNSsD47BeP6MTGDdpb-CwtR/s1600/DSC07434.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6RulNn7fPbtcUXwm5rQNSKY-Ux1VERMPt4UesBWAAY42052N_Kh8OmG_tY1Je0B6ZzWS09IOqKvS5QElknnE9eYmrQv3VQl5asCe0lyZstMWfEfWLQNqG7HNSsD47BeP6MTGDdpb-CwtR/s320/DSC07434.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I am going for modern (with some retro flair - like <a href="http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/anything-rows-dress">this awesome dress</a>!). There are quite a few options here, but I am looking at the stripes...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcOhv0xnOORB3wHUMYEHx9j0dt14xPvWEr-2DgfZjdaCom6kvDuIzzNCQeamlI7yK9DMqAGJoWFCjgj-UYMX1aS5kaOayK7TcdSBtDxr21gYJBIQEy1-RL6YLP0lRXnCAQGdpCmH9GQKff/s1600/DSC07437.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcOhv0xnOORB3wHUMYEHx9j0dt14xPvWEr-2DgfZjdaCom6kvDuIzzNCQeamlI7yK9DMqAGJoWFCjgj-UYMX1aS5kaOayK7TcdSBtDxr21gYJBIQEy1-RL6YLP0lRXnCAQGdpCmH9GQKff/s320/DSC07437.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
...or the blue floral print. Both would be super cute! So, I am going to learn how to design a dress pattern and make a dress. Might be good practice as I really want to make my own clothes sometime soon! (My sewing machine and I have a real hot/cold relationship...I love it when it behaves, but occasionally it rebels. I am sure it's due to user error, though. I'm still learning the ropes!)<br />
<br />
Anyway, what do you think..stripes (navy blue, they are on the left in the above picture) or the blue floral?<br />
<br />
I am excited to get her dressed so she can "meet" Oscar, Esmerelda, and Stanley. I'll document her visit to the herbal shop, the historical society, and finally her move-in to the Glencroft! I can't wait!<br />

Even with using the sewing machine, it was quite the venture. In fact, using a sewing machine probably upped the difficulty level a bit, since I had a 1/8" seam allowance. Hmmm. I might just make those pieces wider next time. ;)<br />
<br />
Anyway, here is how it turned out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSqQrPjbspxyIUB3Ly5EtOIuKHC_oyB3rukmFe6sXABLnmeUezKkTp7dvJVD1EnxlpiQNJCGrM9pughL7OiigFr7idixaBzNxjkT__J0xXT6pjMrjBzVi3rcr-4uQZzVK1EsYnazf8PXbo/s1600/IMG_1398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSqQrPjbspxyIUB3Ly5EtOIuKHC_oyB3rukmFe6sXABLnmeUezKkTp7dvJVD1EnxlpiQNJCGrM9pughL7OiigFr7idixaBzNxjkT__J0xXT6pjMrjBzVi3rcr-4uQZzVK1EsYnazf8PXbo/s320/IMG_1398.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The top of the quilt. I am pretty happy with this. The binding is a bit too wide, so I will definitely change that for the next quilt (and there will be a next quilt!) <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1PY7RRxpUfUTOTYizICdoIrGSCu9CKcM2YgIDtK-nwmrKfBG5W41dcAIZUDr3jtPOPwnC-6j2uUUNEevokGwp37l_NFOWOvUcpOgUUhBZ0eJR0qPdXkGiw3iF8at9rIC1vrQJ-DPavMQT/s1600/IMG_1399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1PY7RRxpUfUTOTYizICdoIrGSCu9CKcM2YgIDtK-nwmrKfBG5W41dcAIZUDr3jtPOPwnC-6j2uUUNEevokGwp37l_NFOWOvUcpOgUUhBZ0eJR0qPdXkGiw3iF8at9rIC1vrQJ-DPavMQT/s320/IMG_1399.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is the back. I'm not crazy about it, but I had LOTS of this fabric in my stash and wanted to use it. My sewing machine was being a pain too, so the stitches were less than awesome on this side. I still need to trim some stray threads.<br />
<br />
This is how it looks on a bed. It fits a dollhouse scale full bed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQ5DqXwSE0jrijMlbrJ7Bc2d578R0_qJq09kWjhgxvSVqwrnip6zYOOYwDZwPMLlV80E3j_cuf_24m1gpO83UwZ4EQUWSev6OTuQanD8PBMz80oilJf7Lm4yZGukriaSCochtzeZ1sthF/s1600/IMG_1396.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvQ5DqXwSE0jrijMlbrJ7Bc2d578R0_qJq09kWjhgxvSVqwrnip6zYOOYwDZwPMLlV80E3j_cuf_24m1gpO83UwZ4EQUWSev6OTuQanD8PBMz80oilJf7Lm4yZGukriaSCochtzeZ1sthF/s320/IMG_1396.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
It does look good on the bed, so I am pretty happy with that! This quilt is one I will keep, but I will hopefully be designing and making some more for the shop once I get a good method down. :-)<br />
<br />
Lessons learned:<br />
1) Hand sewing may actually be better for tiny stitches.<br />
2) Skinny binding will look better in this scale. (And maybe darker for this particular quilt, though I like it when it's on the bed.)<br />
3) Patience is required!<br />
4) I can make tiny quilts! :-DLindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09923870005222288815noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333007594028572156.post-31632700215311995172013-06-15T16:42:00.000-04:002013-06-15T18:44:10.337-04:00Dollhouse quiltsEnjoying a beautiful day today! It's also been a week since I got married and I am very much enjoying it! (Our honeymoon is in July.)<br />
<br />
I've been doing little crafting lately, but am happy to share something I just started making - a dollhouse quilt. This isn't easy and I am not using any tutorials to make one. (But, maybe I'll make a tutorial if this turns out okay!)<br />
<br />
I found a bag of tiny fabric scraps in our storage unit a few weeks ago when we were looking for a couple other items. I brought it back to the craft desk and set it aside until I decided to make a tiny quilt. I have a real-life lap quilt that I made last year out of African fabric and I am hoping to make one that (somewhat) matches.<br />
<br />
I started on it yesterday. First I cut pieces of the fabric (they were in 2 inch x 2 inch squares) into 2 inch by 1/2 inch strips. I then sewed together different patterns with a 1/8" seam allowance.<br />
<br />
This is what I have so far:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_qfK3Af7_1JLoE6cFhstUrJEHmmoWRhgBbE2FVUWmilPTE1vO3M1YxTYrWDXrXrBE_jPnE3ZS4-XIydGNTMv7hPmRRUhG36XAXYgiPVn_y1Fd6uY_mP0g9CkwRHk2Ch24S5P4Hx2cImjI/s1600/IMG_1394.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_qfK3Af7_1JLoE6cFhstUrJEHmmoWRhgBbE2FVUWmilPTE1vO3M1YxTYrWDXrXrBE_jPnE3ZS4-XIydGNTMv7hPmRRUhG36XAXYgiPVn_y1Fd6uY_mP0g9CkwRHk2Ch24S5P4Hx2cImjI/s320/IMG_1394.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I am going to join these together so there will be sets of 4 strips. Then I am going to find a solid color in my stash and join the 4 patterned strips to a strip of solid color then to another strip of four and then continue this until I get the desired length of quilt. Then I will probably cut this in half so the strips are 1" wide. That might look better. We will see!<br />
<br />
As you can see, I cut and sewed quite a bit yesterday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC3NH9L710zRfa0yxw-3H7Pc4ypsXGPe_9tex-p-Zq7hgqdhbovd8kI_YcyPpKRA6WQFDh8rOsOlcdG8Mw2KgM_ifE92sXJeXDwd9Xsj1o7s3yr8uJJ_XZxOUUxJNCGM8sPYI3hyphenhyphenMxljHV/s1600/IMG_1395.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC3NH9L710zRfa0yxw-3H7Pc4ypsXGPe_9tex-p-Zq7hgqdhbovd8kI_YcyPpKRA6WQFDh8rOsOlcdG8Mw2KgM_ifE92sXJeXDwd9Xsj1o7s3yr8uJJ_XZxOUUxJNCGM8sPYI3hyphenhyphenMxljHV/s320/IMG_1395.jpg" width="261" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is a pile of strips pinned together. I just need to sew them to get a group of four strips. :) Now, to raid my stash for a solid color. :-)<br />
<br />
I'll keep you all updated about how this works out! Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09923870005222288815noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333007594028572156.post-21415025782929866052013-06-03T14:50:00.000-04:002013-06-03T14:50:16.972-04:00Hutches and potteryI have a lot of extraneous minis. I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing, but recently, I was going through the extra pieces I had (which I keep displayed on a shelf in our living room) and decided to reorganize and maybe even pare down some of it.<br />
<br />
I don't know if you remember that shadow box display of pottery I put together a while back. (It's <a href="http://lindasminis.blogspot.com/2013/02/room-box-idea.html">here</a>.) Well, the hutch in that shadowbox has two matching pieces. Interestingly, I got all three of them from different places, but they look like they were made by the same person/company. I decided to put all three of them in the shadowbox, with the pottery, and I even added a small enamel pot with forsythia, too.<br />
<br />
Someday, I will hang this somewhere. For now, it sits on the table in our foyer.<br />

(and Etsy sales!)So, I don't know if I mentioned this too much, but I am getting married on June 8th! It's coming super-fast and I am quite excited.<br />
<br />
We are trying to take an eco-friendly, DIY approach as much as possible. I even made my own bouquet! Here's a peek...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNv5yX5f5AQlczJ9yy-mIUmMCAkq5I1N7_5tvaiFnkPB73w-cwBaFey4DcsP07i20toKjYFG6110K8-fpg9wol4tV4GfUxzXxBJpLuB02Z51FcDL1F_zisQgcEEvF679856AXU3wLkZMx5/s1600/bouquet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNv5yX5f5AQlczJ9yy-mIUmMCAkq5I1N7_5tvaiFnkPB73w-cwBaFey4DcsP07i20toKjYFG6110K8-fpg9wol4tV4GfUxzXxBJpLuB02Z51FcDL1F_zisQgcEEvF679856AXU3wLkZMx5/s320/bouquet.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
Those are ribbon roses and flowers. It took forever to make but it was totally worth it as I know it will last a very long time. I made two more, smaller, ones for my maid of honor and bridesmaid. :) I am planning on making a wrist corsage that matches for my mom, too.<br />
<br />
<br />
As we are going away for the wedding, I will be putting<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/LindasMinis"> my Etsy shop</a> on vacation (from June 4-11). BUT, I wanted to give a little gift to all of you, so from now until June 3, you will get 30% in my shop if you use the coupon code WEDDING2013.<br />
<br />
I will be posting a few more times before the wedding. I have been re-organizing some of the houses and perhaps I will do another book review, time permitting.<br />
<br />
Hope all of you are doing well!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />

Hi there! On <a href="https://www.facebook.com/LindasMinis">my facebook page</a>, I had asked folks if they'd be interested in reading book reviews on my blog. I did receive some positive responses, so I thought I'd start with a very fun selection from my bookshelf called <i>Microcrafts</i>.</div>

This colorful book details 25+ projects you can make using
scraps in your craft stash. I am all about using up materials and letting very
little, if any, go to waste. This book is great for giving you ideas on how to
do that! Imagine having a "crafternoon" or a rainy day where you
wanted to create but didn't want to start a "big" project. This book
is perfect for that situation. It would also be fun to share with a younger
craft fan as well! There are lots of simple projects
(bunting, for example) but also some more complicated projects (mini books)
that will take some more time and patience. </div>

As a miniaturist, I find this book a great source for ideas
for my dollhouses (in 1/12 scale). Books, bunting, miniature candy, deer heads,
houseplants (including macramé plant holders!), and birdfeeders are just a few of
the projects that are directly applicable to the miniaturist hobby. However, it
is easy to adapt any of the projects for a dollhouse scene. For example, I made
one of the little fabric owls (shown below) and decided (by mistake, actually)
that they would make super cute pillows! Perfect for a 1/12 scale scene!</div>

The instructions are quite clear. There are some great photographs and diagrams. You can use tracing paper to copy the patterns so you can use them again and again! <br />

A special bonus in this book is the appendix, which includes information about supplies needed in projects within the book as well as various basic craft techniques. The latter include stitches to help you complete the projects and actually make the book a great crafter's reference as well! I also enjoy the modification ideas and the information about the contributors also found in the appendix. </div>

Sometimes you just need to create something cute, frivolous,

On the way back to NY, we stopped by one of the places I went to when I was about 8 years old - Roadside America in Shartlesville, PA. It's right off of I-78. Here is their <a href="http://www.roadsideamericainc.com/">website: http://www.roadsideamericainc.com/</a>.<br />
<br />
I thought I would share with you some pictures as I remember how exciting this was when I was 8 and it's still pretty cool about 25 years later. :) (Photo credit goes to my fiancé, who, unlike me, remembered to bring his camera in!)<br />

<br />
I want to share with you something I have been working on and maybe get some ideas. I don't know if this will be something that ends up in the Etsy shop or what, but I was playing around the other day and made this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkTw7qGDsrqSg4msGSy9hfn6Nq9XFbUH-5zK6RfAiufFPlWdCyRZZFQ905d-sL29HCv-CbLgrc-SBYcuB_p3LHx5r8UtpVnRYDO5AY9jO50kmywPy0l5tYNYmpncaCVII-bxpmdy_l132n/s1600/DSC07242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkTw7qGDsrqSg4msGSy9hfn6Nq9XFbUH-5zK6RfAiufFPlWdCyRZZFQ905d-sL29HCv-CbLgrc-SBYcuB_p3LHx5r8UtpVnRYDO5AY9jO50kmywPy0l5tYNYmpncaCVII-bxpmdy_l132n/s320/DSC07242.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It's about 1 1/8" at its longest. I think it would make an adorable little coat hook in a shabby chic cottage! (Or maybe fancy curtain rod hooks?)<br />
<br />
I got these little resin pieces from a shop online (I think it was Beady Bom Bom creations, but she closed her store) and they have been sitting in my craft area for a while trying to figure out what they wanted to be.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimVRCBteM-usCG5mX2cDDk2a8uMh-7tulaaGVY0p4hObTSjrYwwrUEgcrS413pWNFON-V1xQQ6yq4e6PdKDXGJln1hbWThMFRqci3PCoUHXOS3m6_R0XZWJsxTe_SBOvYdtl1eY9kUHZ5c/s1600/DSC07243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimVRCBteM-usCG5mX2cDDk2a8uMh-7tulaaGVY0p4hObTSjrYwwrUEgcrS413pWNFON-V1xQQ6yq4e6PdKDXGJln1hbWThMFRqci3PCoUHXOS3m6_R0XZWJsxTe_SBOvYdtl1eY9kUHZ5c/s320/DSC07243.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I had bought some clip-on earring findings at the craft store as I remember reading about their many potential uses in several places throughout the mini craft world. Well, I was playing around with it and got the hook above (on the left). There's a little hook on these which needs to be cut and filed off (I should pick up some metal files) for a smooth edge, but they are relatively easy to work with.<br />
<br />
Here are the specific earring backings that I picked up (at Michael's):<br />
<br />

<br />
Hi everyone! It's a beautiful spring day today. We had a refreshing rain and then plenty of sunshine with a nice breeze.<br />
<br />
I had to work yesterday, so I spent today relaxing and making things. I was inspired to make some clay cinnamon rolls. I haven't yet decided if I am going to sell them, and if I do, how I am going to package them, but here are some pics!<br />

I also worked on a kit from <a href="http://www.true2scale.com/">True2Scale</a>. A while ago, I bought a kit from her to make an enamel-style pot (out of paper) and several forsythia branches. I decided to put these together and decorate one of my dollhouses with it (or maybe the French-style roombox). :)<br />

<br />
I have been wanting to update, but have had little time to do so. But I have some time now and want to share a few things with you. :)<br />
<br />
First, I have been inspired to do a springy, happy scene lately (blame it on the cabin fever) and have been digging some <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/123070634/kit-dollhouse-pillow-fabric-happy-owls?ref=shop_home_active">cute owl pillows</a> that I bought from Whimsy Cottage on Etsy. These are SO cute and I have yet to put them together. Maybe later tonight when I park myself in front of something on Netflix. :)<br />
<br />
Anyway, the owls and my current musical fascination (okay, obsession) have led me to make a roombox dedicated to the great band Canned Heat. They are well-known for the song "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QexOuH8GS-Y">On the Road Again</a>" and "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDPSox7whqI">Going Up the Country</a>" but are so much more than that (<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY6pO6-AeM0">here</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_n36h2zYWI">are just</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKaO9aLDYtc">a few</a> <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbgIgNVUlDs">examples</a>). I am currently reading a biography about Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson, who was the musical scholar and creative force behind the band (though not to discount the talent in the other members) as well as the voice you hear in both of their hit songs. Okay, before this turns into a blog post about Canned Heat, I am going to quickly show you some pics! :-p<br />
<br />
I was going to build a room box for the idea I had when I realized I already had one that would be perfect: the AG Minis roombox I picked up for an amazing price at the Real Good Toys Warehouse Outlet Sale last year (and blogged about <a href="http://lindasminis.blogspot.com/2012/07/vermont-haul.html">here</a> and <a href="http://lindasminis.blogspot.com/2012/07/american-girls-ag-minis-box.html">here</a>)!<br />
<br />
Here is what it looks like now. I am going to be making some changes soon, but I wanted to share what I have now (because sharing is fun!):<br />

<br />
I plan on building a miniature turntable and stereo which will be in the corner where that wooden chest is. I'd like it to actually play music wirelessly from my phone, so I am going to play around with that idea.<br />
<br />
The other thing I wanted to share was some lovely mail I received from Monika at <a href="http://puppenstubennostalgie.blogspot.com/">PuNo</a><a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=8333007594028572156">'s Minis</a>! We had been involved in a lovely swap several months ago and she sent me a lovely surprise card for Easter with some cute little treats: a tiny chocolate bar and a little Easter book! I love them both! Thank you, Monika!<br />

Finally, I wanted to share these little silk banners in my stash. I found them at a cool antique shop in Vermont and I thought I would use them for something. One is for Norway and the other for Peru. I haven't been finding any use for them and wanted to see if anyone here would have a use for them before I find something to do with them.<br />
<br />
First come, first served. If you only want one, that's fine. Just post a comment below saying that you're interested and in which one if you just want one. We'll work out shipping details via email. :)<br />
<br />
If I don't hear from anyone here who wants the banners by April 15th, I'll likely find a place for them somewhere. :)<br />
<br />

<br />
Some of you may know that Google is shutting down its Reader service on July 1st. As a result, you may have to find an alternative to keep up with your favorite blogs. I thought I would offer you some alternatives that I now use so you can continue to read along with me and your other bloggers!<br />
<br />
First, on the iPad, I enjoy <a href="http://flipboard.com/">Flipboard</a>. It is a lovely app which reminds of a magazine. I follow all of my mini blogs there as well as many other sites, including Etsy blog, LinkedIn, CNN, NPR books, and many other home decor and wedding blogs.<br />
<br />
Today, I also synced my blog reading list to another app called <a href="http://blog.feedly.com/2013/03/14/google-reader/">feedly</a>. While I haven't tried it out on the iPad yet, I do like it on my laptop. I highly recommend, after syncing your blogs to it (click on the link to see how), to click on the "Latest" link on their page to see your favorite blogs in order from newest to oldest. It reminds me of the Google Reader layout just a bit.<br />
<br />
There are other options as well if you want to try them out. Type in "google reader alternatives" in your favorite search engine to learn about some others.<br />
<br />
I hope this is helpful to you and I hope you will continue to join me on this blog!<br />
<br />
Cheers,<br />
Linda<br />
<br />
PS: If you have more alternatives, please put them in the comments! Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09923870005222288815noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333007594028572156.post-72216761759041782682013-03-12T19:24:00.000-04:002013-03-12T19:31:32.857-04:00Update on the Glencroft and new findings!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Hi all!<br />
<br />
I have been so busy lately, but took some time tonight to clean out my miniature supplies. I was inspired to add a couple of things to the Glencroft and to the blog.<br />
<br />
So, without further ado, here are some pics! :)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhFn2GGYxRSUvTsjR4o3Mwh5FhZSlQSsUizZ8toL3Hb1Yh2ZxX6SVBhoGBUo2W6IFhCC79sIw53EVLafrrRbxYf824KTTsfKDLilbr4mpK4PHpeAJosNZzNHwZMR6HFbmN11qffsLCsMGH/s1600/DSC07088.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhFn2GGYxRSUvTsjR4o3Mwh5FhZSlQSsUizZ8toL3Hb1Yh2ZxX6SVBhoGBUo2W6IFhCC79sIw53EVLafrrRbxYf824KTTsfKDLilbr4mpK4PHpeAJosNZzNHwZMR6HFbmN11qffsLCsMGH/s320/DSC07088.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is a painting I've done of a Gibson Les Paul Goldtop and I *love* it. (I play guitar, too!) So, I decided that it filled up some empty wallspace *very* well in the Glencroft living room!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just a small addition to the kitchen: a miniature Betty Crocker cookbook I received in a swap a while back. :)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I added this owl painting to the living room as well. I was feeling very inspired a couple weekends ago and did some painting. I love the 60s era band Canned Heat and one of the lead singers (who passed away at the age of 27 in 1970) was nicknamed the Blind Owl. So...while I was listening to their music, I painted a very cool owl. :)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1X-TZjzo_EIGcWrLZ-NPVgAhBqcEwpxYJ7Sb4fIEr31YE1QTzl2nHIYjW3EPvhkwIWa8jWcYmF8teZqd_gAUj1Wf2gUKTFeGKcC4QTvR1cMIK1AnAvFqH3KWBDpZI3D4whHlJj7OREjJC/s1600/DSC07096.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1X-TZjzo_EIGcWrLZ-NPVgAhBqcEwpxYJ7Sb4fIEr31YE1QTzl2nHIYjW3EPvhkwIWa8jWcYmF8teZqd_gAUj1Wf2gUKTFeGKcC4QTvR1cMIK1AnAvFqH3KWBDpZI3D4whHlJj7OREjJC/s320/DSC07096.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I also painted a bear (for Bob "The Bear" Hite, the other lead singer in Canned Heat's most famous period). I also moved the bed around a bit and put the laundry basket next to the doorway.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4ReaZ7KU2bGSLqBtezsJ6li7NOun9xIB61NIzaIK14G2wOyoWq0qa6mAyxFauQ_xdyjAzD2dfVtsa4xSt8fGt_VrxwzzHhLalQdsfXVrXAeup3GqssU86oVnzgslCHa6iVGhGM55LSU7w/s1600/DSC07098.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4ReaZ7KU2bGSLqBtezsJ6li7NOun9xIB61NIzaIK14G2wOyoWq0qa6mAyxFauQ_xdyjAzD2dfVtsa4xSt8fGt_VrxwzzHhLalQdsfXVrXAeup3GqssU86oVnzgslCHa6iVGhGM55LSU7w/s320/DSC07098.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I was tired of the empty space next to the fireplace in the bedroom, so I put a little basket in there. One of my favorite little features of dollhouses is seeing just a tiny bit of something in a nook or in a hallway. It adds a bit of realism to the scene.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibCwtXNM7vqjRAintNsHD43zbUKrIlF_P_3QfIXL3ZZL2jPIsc4thrqHp0OOi1KSARtYYZgPpQXT60CxH1HOVSDwVvAYs-J6BiUm-OGq35RMeb8KCtFJhJKfkvUz6aGWtHG5JQ97jcuUEI/s1600/DSC07092.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibCwtXNM7vqjRAintNsHD43zbUKrIlF_P_3QfIXL3ZZL2jPIsc4thrqHp0OOi1KSARtYYZgPpQXT60CxH1HOVSDwVvAYs-J6BiUm-OGq35RMeb8KCtFJhJKfkvUz6aGWtHG5JQ97jcuUEI/s320/DSC07092.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I also wanted to show you these CUTE storybooks which would be perfect
for any dollhouse children's room (they are sitting on the bedroom floor
of the Glencroft so you have an idea of scale). I found these in the
charms section of my local Hobby Lobby. They had eye pins in them, but I
easily pulled them out with needlenose pliers. They look like perfect
oversize books for your (1/12 scale) kid's library.</td><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>

<br />
I had seen a couple of fun dollhouse/miniature-related items I'd like to share with you.<br />
<br />
First, there was this cute dollhouse:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU7Dp6tWlMTJ7DY-IzYvDUPne40aca_ySKAjaSgXNHrSNcce6TdlwVpaeIZ0TsHnm7cbEE1YjN2jja92_pWROX0XjLqjcQsR30tsP01IjIhj7R6NLH5oXve_mU8A7jYmQEVF_VCZpmdwmF/s1600/IMG_1161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiU7Dp6tWlMTJ7DY-IzYvDUPne40aca_ySKAjaSgXNHrSNcce6TdlwVpaeIZ0TsHnm7cbEE1YjN2jja92_pWROX0XjLqjcQsR30tsP01IjIhj7R6NLH5oXve_mU8A7jYmQEVF_VCZpmdwmF/s320/IMG_1161.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
And this cute shadow box:<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I didn't pick anything up, but as usual, it was fun looking around! Oh, if you're in the area, these items were at the <a href="https://plus.google.com/108208477104584537539/about?gl=us&hl=en">Leisure Time Flea Market</a> in Ravena, NY. Lots of treasures here!<br />

I love that they include pictures to show how it was done for those who (like me) cannot read Japanese. It looks like you need a thin sheet of metal, shears, at least two handles for miniature drills for twisting the metal, needlenose pliers, adhesive or solder, and spray paint. Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09923870005222288815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8333007594028572156.post-15720341071537390052013-02-09T13:24:00.000-05:002013-02-09T13:24:12.955-05:00Room box ideaHello everyone! I hope those in the Northeast US are safely digging themselves out of this blizzard! Here in Albany, we only got about 6 inches, which is rather minimal compared to what I've heard has been going on in coastal New England. Lots of friends without power and some serious coastal flooding in Massachusetts.<br />
<br />
I have not been posting much as I have been very busy with my job and haven't had much time to think about, or create new, minis (except, of course, for filling any <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/LindasMinis">Etsy</a> orders that come in!). I've also been indulging another hobby for the first time in a couple years: playing the guitar. Thankfully, I just need to get my tough fingertips back, but I look forward to playing music again.<br />
<br />
Not to worry though! I am thinking about minis and I do read your blogs to see what you've been up to! There are so many wonderful creations and new designs and just simply amazing things being created by miniaturists everyday! <br />
<br />
I did want to share with you one thing. I have those Carolyn Curran pottery pieces that<a href="http://lindasminis.blogspot.com/2012/02/pottery-from-carolyn-curran.html"> I have blogged about before</a>, and I wanted to display them since they are simply amazing. So, I went to my local Michael's and found a <a href="http://www.michaels.com/artminds-unfinished-wood-shadow-box-11in-x-14in/gc2431,default,pd.html?cgid=products-generalcrafts-craftingsurfaces&start=1">hinged, unfinished shadowbox</a>. I built a floor inside of it and wallpapered the interior (adding moulding and a chair rail). It's simple but is a nice piece to hang on the wall. (It does come with hanging hardware, too).<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This is the back of the shadowbox. The hanging hardware is pre-installed, but on the short end. I am going to remove this and reinstall it on the longer side so I can hang this on the wall.</td></tr>

<br />
First, on Etsy, I've made <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/119785927/colorful-dollhouse-miniature-gazing">a bunch more crystal balls with colorful bases</a>. I love these vintage bead findings; they are so bright and cheery!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw5qdwZ0XsnuHyyIunajUwnDOt59GOKlN5onBVFKWBIUsj64rh4tRCf47KWRb3MOUFLpH03XAZZ-F1z-WpYB9E1fbseb6eta7kLOhNdHixjsqS82updgOXCs7fPBOfcfJnfECdmDJP1IP1/s1600/DSC07056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgw5qdwZ0XsnuHyyIunajUwnDOt59GOKlN5onBVFKWBIUsj64rh4tRCf47KWRb3MOUFLpH03XAZZ-F1z-WpYB9E1fbseb6eta7kLOhNdHixjsqS82updgOXCs7fPBOfcfJnfECdmDJP1IP1/s320/DSC07056.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have also added these <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/119783953/seven-glass-balls-marbles-for-crafting?ref=v1_other_2">vintage glass balls</a> which are much too big for
1/12th scale gazing balls but could be fun in other applications...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
On eBay, I have listed this <a href="http://www.ebay.com/itm/190781205654?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649">Holly Hobbie collectible wall telephone</a> miniature (seems a little big for 1/12th scale):<br />

<br />
Okay, now that the shameless plug is all over and done with, I did want to highlight something I am trying this year. On several other craft and mini blogs, I have found mention of this cool Creative Every Day challenge and I think it's a great idea. I am pretty busy, but it's nice to make some time for creative activity. However, there are times I get a bit stuck and don't know what to work on. I think this challenge will be helpful in lighting some creative fires and at least act as a bit of springboard for new ideas either for ongoing projects, new projects, or the Etsy shop. :) You can read more about it on <a href="http://creativeeveryday.com/creative-every-day-challenge">this page</a> and <a href="http://creativeeveryday.com/2013-creative-every-day-challenge-participant-and-sign-up-page">sign up on this page</a>! I am looking forward to reading what some of the other participants are working on! :) Lindahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09923870005222288815noreply@blogger.com2
