Google Reader alternatives

Hi all.

Some of you may know that Google is shutting down its Reader service on July 1st. As a result, you may have to find an alternative to keep up with your favorite blogs. I thought I would offer you some alternatives that I now use so you can continue to read along with me and your other bloggers!

First, on the iPad, I enjoy Flipboard. It is a lovely app which reminds of a magazine. I follow all of my mini blogs there as well as many other sites, including Etsy blog, LinkedIn, CNN, NPR books, and many other home decor and wedding blogs.

Today, I also synced my blog reading list to another app called feedly. While I haven't tried it out on the iPad yet, I do like it on my laptop. I highly recommend, after syncing your blogs to it (click on the link to see how), to click on the "Latest" link on their page to see your favorite blogs in order from newest to oldest. It reminds me of the Google Reader layout just a bit.

There are other options as well if you want to try them out. Type in "google reader alternatives" in your favorite search engine to learn about some others.

I hope this is helpful to you and I hope you will continue to join me on this blog!

Cheers,
Linda

PS: If you have more alternatives, please put them in the comments!

  5. I've been using feedly and so far so good... I think the real test will be when it stops drawing from my Reader feed... we'll see if all that XML importing worked.

I also imported everything to Bloglovin too... just in case, it was pretty painless :)

Aaaaand... I do have an answer on a good 1/12 anime style girl... the creators of Pure Neemo have recently started a new line called Pico Neemo, it's their Neemo girls in 1/12 scale!

I think the first releases are out of stock, but they should release more in the months to come... but here's the product listing for them:

    1. I have posted my answer to your blog, but in case other readers are curious:

I do not know if Google will be offering an alternative once it shuts down Reader. I do know there are a number of petitions out there to keep it going so I am crossing my fingers as I actually like Google Reader, but in the meantime, I am trying out feedly and Flipboard to get used to them in case Google does cut off Reader after all.
